With just a few more days until we close out 2014, I wanted to take a moment to thank you for being part of the GovDataDownload community. As I wrote at Thanksgiving, this time of year can be overwhelming with the frenzy of holiday to-dos in addition to end-of-year business demands. This year has been especially challenging for America’s public sector IT employees, as you’ve navigated the changing IT landscape and found ways to do more with less. We are very thankful for your efforts, and hope you’ve found GovDataDownload to be a useful resource in your battle against the unrelenting data storm that 2014 brought.

Outside the government, too, big data was a big deal in 2014. Whether it was the FIFA World Cup, the Ice Bucket Challenge, or the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, the world generated an unprecedented amount of data this past year. Additionally, data played a role in many challenges, projects and triumphs this year. NetApp compiled some of 2014’s big data highlights in this infographic, in case you’re curious to see just how big a role data played this past year.
