As much as the holiday season is about presents and parties, its true meaning, for me, is found in giving. I’m very proud to work for an organization that makes giving a priority and encourages all of us to take time out of our work schedules to give back to organizations that support worthy causes.
This year the entire US Public Sector team has given their all when it comes to charities that support our veterans. Every year Operation Homefront hosts 5 Days of Christmas. During this time, a gift basket is delivered to a wounded veteran at Walter Reed every day during the event. Our team, led by our Women in Technology group, committed to provide 40 baking baskets, which contained cookie mix, a tub of icing, cookie cutters, sprinkles, mixing spoons, oven mitts, and a mixing bowl or baking pan to hold the items. We exceeded our goal, making 44 baskets and also giving an additional present of gift cards for the soldiers at Walter Reed Hospital and their families.
But while we focus on giving during the holiday season, I’m proud to say that we keep it as a focus all year round. This summer, our employees donated 16 pints of blood to the Red Cross. Blood continues to be a vital need across the country, and NetApp’s donation could be used to save up to 48 lives. And, for the fifth year in a row, members of our local U.S. Public Sector office participated in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Our National Capital team, as well as seven other teams from NetApp, walked to raise money to help find a cure for this terrible disease. Together we raised over $35,000, which was then matched at 100 percent by the Warmenhoven Family Foundation.
It’s examples like these that make me proud to lead our U.S. Public Sector team at NetApp. From all of us at NetApp and GovDataDownload we wish you a very happy holiday season.
Full of warmth and good cheer from stories of giving like these, all of us at GovDataDownload and NetApp wish you a very happy holiday season.
