What is it about hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI) that enables data-driven transformation? In a word, simplicity. HCI simplifies the deployment of resources, the management of infrastructure, and even the teams managing the infrastructure. And with the recent launch of NetApp Enterprise-Scale HCI, NetApp’s A-team is hitting the road to host a series of events across the country to educate customers about what the next generation HCI brings to the table.
Kirk Kern, CTO, NetApp US Public Sector and Keith Aasen, Solutions Architect, NetApp, have both spoken about how the first generation HCI solutions were inflexible in terms of deployment and scalability in these three major areas:
1. Existing Compute.
First-generation HCI solutions have been inflexible when it comes to adding or subtracting compute resources. With first- generation HCI, storage and compute must be deployed together. NetApp’s Enterprise HCI allows customers to use their current compute capacity so that existing investments can be leveraged instead of abandoned.
2. Massive Scalability.
First-generation HCI solutions don’t allow for the scale that many agencies require to meet mission-critical needs. With NetApp’s Enterprise HCI, capacity, compute, and memory can be added incrementally. An asset from one cluster may be moved to another transparently so they can be deployed in any environment. This helps customers avoid costly over-provisioning, simplifying capacity and performance planning.
3. Part of a Larger Data Fabric.
For federal agencies, it’s critical to be able to move your data where you need it when you need to. Enterprise HCI integrates fully into NetApp’s Data Fabric for enhanced data portability, protection and visibility. NetApp’s Data Fabric provides choice, allowing customers to unleash the full power of data across the environment – whether on-premise or in a public or hybrid cloud.
During the roadshow, the A-team will also educate customers on some of the additional features of the new HCI, including:
- Running multiple applications with guaranteed performance, and massive VM density.
- Confidently deploying HCI across the entire data center, with enterprise scale.
- Simplifying and automating management to cut operating costs up to 67%.
- Integrating with the NetApp Data Fabric to access data any time, any cloud.
